Having problems opening Microsoft Word, Powerpoint or Excel files in this or other places? Download free viewers which permit you to read various Microsoft products. Downloads will take a while, but will be worth it. Here are the most common programs. They will permit you to read and print information you receive from other computer users in any of these programs through the latest version of MS Office 2007. You can usually copy and paste into your non-Microsoft programs, too. Click on the program you want to download:

Word: Views most documents you receive.

Excel: Views most spreadsheets you receive.

PowerPoint: A lot of emails have slideshows attached - similar to utube. This will allow you to view documents with a .ppt and .pps file extensions.

These 3 viewers will handle 90% of the Microsoft items you receive from others. For other viewer programs that you might need later, Google Microsoft download center. For example if you want to read information written in MS Access (not likely): “download Microsoft Access viewer 2007”

if you want to write in, or edit any of these programs, you’ll have to buy the latest version of MS Office or MS Word - as the message in your computer will tell you. I’d recommend you try the free viewers for awhile. That should be sufficient for your needs. If you eventually decide to buy Microsoft Office (has all of these programs bundled together), ask for the “Student Edition,” as it is sufficiently powerful and much cheaper.
